Submission Process and Rules

Information on how to nominate an individual for the 2022 award will be available in December 2021.

As Ohio’s sole public funding source dedicated to child abuse and child neglect prevention, the Ohio Children’s Trust Fund (OCTF) is at the forefront of prevention activities throughout the state. Since its creation in 1984, the OCTF has funded primary and secondary prevention strategies conducted at the local level in all 88 Ohio counties, in addition to initiatives and projects of statewide significance, all of which are designed to strengthen families and prevent child abuse and neglect.

The month of April is especially important to the OCTF given that it is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. This April, the Trust Fund continues to raise awareness of the impact that child abuse and neglect have on Ohio’s children and to communicate that we all have a role to play in preventing child abuse and neglect. In April 2020, the Trust Fund is prompting a call to action to encourage all adults to “Be a Hero in the Eyes of a Child – one simple act of encouragement at a time.”

In recognition of adults throughout Ohio who are “Everyday Heroes,” the OCTF established the Everyday Ohio Hero Awards to honor individuals who dedicate their time, efforts or lives to preventing child abuse and child neglect. An Everyday Ohio Hero is an individual or group who has made a significant impact on child abuse and child neglect prevention through their everyday acts.

Additional information regarding the OCTF and its child abuse and child neglect prevention efforts can be found at octf.ohio.gov.

THE EVERYDAY OHIO HERO AWARDS NOMINATION PROCESS

The OCTF are seeking nominations for outstanding adults, youth, community volunteer groups, or corporate groups that have made a significant impact in their local communities by supporting vulnerable families in need to prevent child abuse and child neglect in each of the eight child abuse and neglect prevention regions in Ohio

Nominations will be grouped and reviewed based on the geographic region where the everyday hero made an impact. One award will be given in each region. Self-nominations will be accepted, and nominators are encouraged to submit multiple nominations.

Nominations for the Everyday Ohio Hero Awards must be received by the OCTF by 3 p.m. on February 12, 2021. Nominations must be submitted using the Everyday Ohio Heroes Nomination form.

Please refer questions regarding the Everyday Ohio Hero Awards to octf@octf.ohio.gov.

THE EVERYDAY OHIO HERO AWARDS SELECTIONS

One individual from each of the OCTF’s eight child abuse and neglect prevention regions will be selected for the Everyday Hero Award: Central, Eastern, Great Lakes, Northeast, Northwest, Southeast, Southwest and Western.

OCTF staff, board members and regional prevention partners will review nominations. Reviewers will evaluate nominations based on the nominee’s accomplishments and measurable community impact. Nominators and winners will be notified by March 2021.

Awards will be presented to awardees during the Ohio Children’s Trust Fund’s April Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month Campaign Virtual Kickoff Event on April 1, 2021. The OCTF will provide further details regarding this event prior to April 1st.

The Ohio Children’s Trust Fund reserves the right to not grant awards in all regions if an insufficient number of entries is received and/or the applicants do not meet the established standards of the review committee.
