Shari Uncapher, MSW, L.I.S.W.-S, has worked for nearly thirty-five years as a strong advocate for survivors of child maltreatment and promoter of child abuse and neglect prevention programs through her dedicated work at Nationwide Children’s Hospital (NCH). From1986 through 2005, Shari worked at NCH in the Family Support Program (FSP) as a psychotherapist for child abuse survivors. She also developed a treatment program for young offenders in an effort to prevent further child maltreatment. During the same time, she was a psychotherapist she also functioned as the coordinator for Nationwide Children’s Hospital and Franklin County Child Advocacy Project from 1999-2002. This project resulted in the establishment of The Center for Child and Family Advocacy at NCH (currently The Center for Family Safety and Healing).
The Center currently houses the Child Assessment Program where children and adolescents receive forensic interviews, medical evaluations and family intervention due to alleged maltreatment. The Center also houses the therapy program (FSP) and several child abuse and neglect prevention programs. Following direct clinical services and community coordination at the Center, Shari became the clinical manager for NCH Behavioral Health Services and The Child Advocacy Center at NCH. From 2011 to 2015 Shari was Clinical Director for outpatient services for NCH Behavioral Health Services. From 2015 to present Shari has been Director in Behavioral Health (NCH). Such programs include Partial Hospitalization, Eating Disorders, Mood and Anxiety Disorders, and Family Support Program (trauma treatment). Shari has truly been an unsung hero for prevention of child abuse and neglect for many years.
