A National Issue
Child abuse and neglect affects families from all walks of life. It’s an issue that impacts communities across the country. And it’s important that we all work together to create the kind of environment that every child deserves to grow up in.
- Nearly 700,000 children are abused in the U.S. annually. Of the 3.5 million children who were reported to child protective services for maltreatment in 2017, an estimated 674,000 children were determined to be victims of abuse and/or neglect.
- Neglect is the most common form of maltreatment. Of the children who experienced maltreatment or abuse, three-quarters suffered neglect; 17.2% suffered physical abuse; and 8.4% suffered sexual abuse.
