COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Children’s Trust Fund (OCTF) will receive $2.71 million over five years to pilot a community-based child abuse and neglect prevention program in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties. The OCTF was one of eight entities nationwide to receive a federal Community Collaborations to Strengthen and Preserve Families grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Administration for Children and Families. In Ohio, the funding will be used to provide supportive services designed to strengthen families, including those at highest risk for child maltreatment.
“We are extremely excited that the Administration for Children and Families has invested in our vision to create a community-based prevention model, providing supportive services to families and children ‘upstream’ before a crisis occurs,” said OCTF Executive Director Lindsay Williams. “This evidence-based approach recognizes that parents are essential to the well-being of children and aims to provide parents with the resources and supports they need to be successful.”
This collaborative grant project will focus on providing an array of universal prevention services to at-risk families through a multi-tiered approach in partnership with the Northeast Ohio Regional Prevention Council (NEORPC), the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS), the Supreme Court of Ohio (SCO), and multiple community partners.
“Through this program, we will ‘meet families where they are’ – ranging from one-time consultations to intensive home visiting services,” Williams said. “Families will be able to select the frequency and duration of services that will best meet their unique needs and help them to achieve their goals.”
“I would like to congratulate the Ohio Children’s Trust Fund who received this grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Their commitment to invest in strong communities, healthy families and safe children is a mission I strongly support,” said Senator Stephanie Kunze, who chairs the OCTF Board. “This grant will pave the way for the Children’s Trust Fund to continue their important work for Ohio’s children.”
